Get to Know Yourself

People always say, "New year, new start," but why do we always have to start over? Why do we always end up falling into the same things? If we are always having to start over, it probably means that we are doing something wrong. . .

In my house we had the problem of always ending up breaking the iron. Either it would over-heat, a rusty liquid would come out of it and stain the clothes that we were ironing, or it just wouldn't turn on. After a while we would always have to buy a new one. . . And every time we would say that we were going to take better care of the new one, that we weren't going to break it. . . And what would happen? The same thing happened over and over again! But what is it that we were doing wrong? Why did they always end up breaking?
Then one day, someone had the great idea to read the instruction manual... Duh! Who knows how things work better than the person who made them?!?! To be able to use the iron well, to be able to know what you should or shouldn't do, you need to know what it CAN DO and the capacities it has.

And the same thing happens to us. . .

Most of the time, we don’t stop to reflect on who we are and what we have, but we should – at least every once in a while.  Why?  Because if we don’t know what gifts God has given us, how can we use them? How can we make the most of them and therefore live better?
We have to get to know everything that God has given us as human persons in order to live as best as we can. AKA we need to read the instruction manual.
God has given us two faculties that make us like Him and superior to other creatures (*remember that we’re made in the image and likeness of God?): intelligence and will. He has also made us free and has given us the capacity to love.

These are the things that we are going to talk about in the next articles.
