I say to you, dear young people: Do not be afraid of Christ! He takes nothing away, and he gives you everything. When we give ourselves to him, we receive a hundredfold in return. Yes, open, open wide the doors to Christ – and you will find true life. Amen.” -Benedict XVI , April 24,2005
Have you ever stopped to think that Christ loves you with an infinite love, and that he has a plan for you to make you as happy as you can be here on earth? So what should you be afraid of? Are you afraid of what He may ask you, the changes you might see you have to make in your life to be a true disciple of Christ?
Do not be afraid of Christ, He alone loves us as we truly are, with our mistakes, failures, gifts, and talents. His love will never fail us. But so many times we are tempted to be afraid of Him, of what He can ask. If we live with that fear, we do not trust in His love.
When we completely trust in His love and open our hearts to Him, He enters in with many gifts to give us. But the first step He leaves to us. It is our choice to make...open our hearts completely to Him, or close ourselves off. Do not be afraid to open wide the doors of your heart to Christ. He will make you happier than you can ever imagine, and you will find true life living with Him.
Are we not perhaps all afraid in some way? If we let Christ enter fully into our lives, if we open ourselves totally to him, are we not afraid that He might take something away from us? Are we not perhaps afraid to give up something significant, something unique, something that makes life so beautiful? Do we not then risk ending up diminished and deprived of our freedom? . . . No! If we let Christ into our lives, we lose nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing of what makes life free, beautiful and great. No! Only in this friendship are the doors of life opened wide. Only in this friendship is the great potential of human existence truly revealed. Only in this friendship do we experience beauty and liberation. And so, today, with great strength and great conviction, on the basis of long personal experience of life, I say to you, dear young people: Do not be afraid of Christ! He takes nothing away, and he gives you everything. When we give ourselves to him, we receive a hundredfold in return. Yes, open, open wide the doors to Christ – and you will find true life. Amen.”
