“Who do you say that I am?”

Dear young people, today Christ is asking you the same question which he asked the Apostles: “Who do you say that I am?” Respond to him with generosity and courage, as befits young hearts like your own. Say to him: “Jesus, I know that you are the Son of God, who has given your life for me. I want to follow you faithfully and to be led by your word. You know me and you love me. I place my trust in you and I put my whole life in your hands. I want you to be the power that strengthens me and the joy which never leaves me."
Pope Benedict XVI, World Youth Day- Closing Mass in Cuatro Vientos, Madrid 2011

Who do you say Jesus is? Who is He for you? Do you know? Have you ever thought about it?

Is He the one you have heard about so much from your parents and teachers, but who doesn’t mean that much to you? Is he the one whom the bible says worked miracles, but you wonder why He won’t work one in your life with your family?

Maybe you see Him as the one who makes all the rules that makes life boring. Maybe He is the one you technically “know a lot about” from class and church but really has no real significance or presence in your life. Maybe He is the one you feel calling you to greater things, to let go of your failures and vices, so you can really live.

Encounter Christ, and find out who He really is in prayer. Find His love and mercy for you that he pours out in the sacrament of Penance. Let Him come into your soul, with all His holiness, to make you holy through the reception of the Eucharist. Let His living Word speak to your heart by reading the scriptures, and find out His plan for you. It all comes from His love. Get to know Him, His love, and trust in Him.
