What happened to Ascension Thursday?

THE ANSWER:
It is true that the Ascension took place 40 days after Easter Sunday, but as the Catholic Church has to live in a society where it is difficult to have a free day on a Thursday, the Bishops decided to move it to the closest Sunday, in order to easily permit that all the faithful can participate and live that important mystery of our faith.
