Now, what to do?

lightIt’s of upmost importance that we preach the Gospel of chastity, modesty, and decency.  In our world, this calls for a beautiful martyrdom, of laying down our lives as witnesses to the love that Christ has for each of us and for the Church as a whole.

“Do everything…that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine like lights in the world, as you hold on to the word of life.” (Phil 2:15-16)

10 Things that will make me want to be…chaste?

1.     Believe in the Gospel of purity.  Before Jesus works a miracle (and living chastely is a miracle), He always asks the one about to be healed to believe… Do you believe it’s possible?
2.    Remember that you are members of Christ’s Body and that you shouldn’t submit yourselves to customs and places, postures and fashions that are not worthy of Him.  You are a temple of the most Holy Trinity, so guard yourselves with great modesty and decency, making yourselves worthy of Jesus, Mary, and all the saints.
3.    Accept in faith that revealing your body or doing anything close to it, offends God, is against His will, and is a sin.  Don’t prefer the criteria of the world over Christ’s Gospel.  If you do, you’re sure to be mistaken in the choices you make when it comes to the way you dress.
4.    Remember that you can’t be a true Christian without accepting the Cross.  To live truly chaste in this world brings with it its crosses, and at times they can feel pretty heavy.  But the greater the cross, the greater the resurrection.  With greater penance comes greater joy.
5.    You may be in the world, but you are called to not be of it.  So don’t feel obliged to follow the trends of the world when they prove to be against Christ’s Gospel.  “Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.” (Romans 12:2)
6.    Read the lives of the saints.  This will help you model your life after those who lived in great freedom and docile to the will of God.  Even if you don’t do the same exact things they did, you will learn to take on their spirit and live according to the Holy Spirit.
7.    Living in the world, look to the example of those called to the consecrated life.  They are dedicating their lives to reach great holiness, but you should too.  Let living chastely penetrate every aspect of your life and put the necessary means to reach the end to which you too are called: heaven.
8.    Know that you have been sent to evangelize the world.  It’s not just about freeing yourselves from evil and avoiding scandal.  The purpose of your vocation is much higher than that.  Be a light in the world amidst so many dark situations and be the salt that keeps others from corruption.
9.    Remember Christ’s teaching about scandalizing others.  “Woe to the world because of things that cause sin! Such things must come, but woe to the one through whom they come!” (Mt 18:7)  Don’t think that just because you aren’t as bad as others, that your actions are still decent.  They might still be an occasion of sin, for others leading to scandal, even if they are less evil.
10.    Be faithful and brave!  Take the Blessed Mother as your Mother, Model, and Teacher.  Offer to the Immaculate your whole being, without reserve, and surely she will lead you to that great beatitude: “Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God!” (Mt 5:8)
