A New Year, A New Start

Dear Beginner,

We have started a new year. It’s common that people make resolutions to start off the New Year, you know… a new year, a new start.

It would be good for you to take some time to think about making some resolutions, but I am not talking about losing a few pounds. Now that you have started off on the spiritual journey, it would be good to make some commitments in your spiritual life. Make a plan that will help you take steps in growing in your relationship with God.

The other day I ran into a friend I hadn’t seen a while. We started to talk; he told me how he was struggling in sin and said “God isn’t fair”. I couldn’t let him go away with that thought so I started to question him and asked him if he was taking advantage of some of the ways we have to get closer to God and build up strength in the fight against the flesh, the world, and the devil. After we talked for a while, he recognized he wasn’t doing all that he could, so I suggested that maybe for this new year he could make some different resolutions.

As St. Paul says “Finally, grow strong in the Lord, with the strength of his power. Put on the full armor of God so as to be able to resist the devil's tactics. This life is a battle without end, it can be tough and our sin can make us feel terrible. We have to put our trust in the Lord, and use the armor he gives us to defend ourselves.

Here are a few pieces of armor that will help you everyday to “fight the good fight”. Remember it as MARCSS.

R- Rosary

I hope to write you soon to explain each one a little more and why it is so important. Until then…
